Nme magazine
Nme is a popular music magazine available in Britain, it stands for new musical express, however it sounds like the word enemy which suggests that the magazine is subversive and that is what type of genre the magazine seems to fall under. The main image also seems to reflect this type of genre as it comes across rebellious and provocative, it promotes sex as well as bad health. As the woman is smocking and standing in a rather sexual way as the man next to her is touching her bare skin, sex is promoted which reflects the aspirations of the target audience. The type of people which would read this magazine are mainly Indy rockers and rock and roll lovers which would be interested in this type of magazine as the images and information included all reflect their aspirations. The straplines also conform to this idea of rebellion 'murder, drugs, and twisted love' promotes violence and strange behaviour, it all sounds rather sinister and it relates to the main image as the same themes are being represented. The mis en scene is also subversive as their wearing leather which is very typical for the whole rock and roll scene, readers therefore aspire to be like this and would in term buy the magazine. The woman is the dominant one in the image as she has the main focus which indicates that she is the main singer in the band and in turn this may attract more women to buy the magazine as women are empowered. Another way in which the magazine is subversive is because expletives are included in one of the articles referring to a popular band which again promotes this idea of rebellion and violence.Tuesday, 4 November 2008
Research for mian task
Q magazine is the biggest music magazine currently available in Britain. Q is also a music channel that plays a verity of music genres. The type of music that Q is associated with is more main recent music, as the magazine advertises it's exclusivity all music and information in likely to be recent and interesting as they are trying to appeal to their target audience. The magazine seems more sophisticated indicating that their target audience is slightly older approaching people in their early twenties and upwards. The typography reflects this as its straight lined and sophisticated. following on from this Madonna is included in the main image which again reflects this idea of main stream sophisticated music, she is also rather old which could mean that the magazine is trying to appeal to a slightly more mature audience. She is looking directly at the camera which means she is trying interact with the audience in order to engage them. Madonna is very famous and is known widely by many people which could add to the magazines exclusivity. Her status also represents conflict as she has been involved with many herself as shes constantly in the media for new scandals, this could be the reason why Q has chosen to use red and black as red stands for danger and passion which could reflect the aspirations of the target audience, similarly black contains an element of darkness and mystery which is also what Madonna could be represented as. The main image is covering the mast head which conforms to the idea that Q is the biggest music magazine in Britian as it must be well established and successful.

Final piece
I produced a final copy of my palimanary task which was to create a school magazine, i based it on Lordswood Girls and chose to represent the media aspect of the school as it is a specialist media arts center. The colour scheme i chose was yellow and blue as i wanted the magazine to resemble the school colours. As the magazine is based on a media school i needed to reflect that idea within my front cover, that's why i included a film strip of images of schoolchildren almost as if it was a kicker to fit into the conventions of a magazine. my straplines are all media based which is why they include subjects like new camera equipment and exam tips for media examinations as well results for the subject. I also kept the fonts to a limit. i wanted the mast head to be more penciled and creative so it links with the main image, however the rest of the straplines are more straight cut as i want it to be straight to the point as that's what media i am trying to convey.Wednesday, 22 October 2008
editing image

I took the original image of the mid shot of a school girl holding a camera. I cropped out the background on Photoshop so just the school girls frame was left, i then went into filters and added an effect on her to make the image look more creative. I added a penciled yellow effect on the image as the yellow suggested school colours, especially against the blue background. I liked the penciled effect as it's different and looks more attractive to look at.

Keira Knightly magazine front cover
I made a magazine front cover for a magazine called 'dwell' the main image consists of keira knightly therefore all the conventions revolved around that. I understood that magazines have various codes and conventions that should be followed in order to suit the genre, for example no more than three colours were used in this magazine front cover so that the conventions followed that of a real magazines. I produced this front cover in Publisher as text works better when layered onto a image rather than alternitives such as Photoshop. My magazine front cover also needed to reflect the aspirations of my target audience which whom are elderly teens to women in their thrities, i feel that most of those women aspire to be like Keira Knightly, threrfore i used her in my magazine exclusive.
